Article 1 – Name

The College of Charleston Men’s Lacrosse Club

Article 2 – Purpose

Section I. The clubs purpose is to provide non-varsity athletes of the College of Charleston the opportunity to continue with organized lacrosse in a competitive, yet fun environment. Students will have the opportunity to be a part of a committed team that competes against club lacrosse teams from other colleges. The lacrosse club will help each member to further develop their stick skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork as well as become involved with the school

Section II. To eventually become a member of the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference.

Article 3 – Membership

Section I. Any student currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs at the College of Charleston is eligible for membership. We will not hold tryouts however, playing time is not guaranteed. Membership is not restricted due to age, citizenship, color, disability, race, religion, national origin, political affiliation, or sexual orientation.

Section II. The club reserves the right to hold tryouts if the executive council deems them necessary based on the number of interested members who want to join the team. In the event of tryouts the coaches and executive council will determine the final roster. Once the final roster has been established, no additions can be made until the end of the season. In the event the club team goes under the required minimum roster number at any point during competition, an invitation will be made to any interested students to tryout for a roster spot.

Section III. Each member is to sign and abide by the constitution. Any member who does not follow the rules and regulations will either be penalized by the team or have their membership revoked. Each member will also pay the membership dues of the team. Any member who does know pay will be ineligible for play until payment is made. Any officers who are NOT players on the team do not have to pay dues. Dues shall be based on the amount of money needed for the club to exist after taking into account equipment, transportation, officials, league dues, and other liabilities the club incurs. At the beginning of each season, the executive council shall determine the appropriate amount of money needed for the upcoming season as well as when dues are to be collected. Players have two weeks after the payment due day to receive money back in full.

Section IV. Membership can be taken away if an individual misses more then four unexcused practices. Membership can also be revoked if an individual represents the team or College in an inappropriate manner. Loss of membership will be determined by a meeting of team captains, coaches, and the club advisor. Excused absences are as follows: Work with early notice, serious illness, family illness, death or emergency, and anything approved by coaches in advance of date. Consequences for missed practice are: suspension from game (partial or full), suspension from team, or expulsion from club.

Article 4 – Meetings

Section I. At the beginning of each semester, there will be meetings for all members to discuss plans for the upcoming season. There will be approximately 3 or 4 meetings throughout the season. Announcements will also be made at practices. The club reserves the right to schedule any mandatory meetings in advance during the course of the season.

Section II. The procedure for calling these meetings will be as such: The president will announce any meetings via email to all the members. Announcements will also be made by the campus recreation activity email that is sent out to students weekly. If any club member or officer feels the need to call a meeting for club members, that individual will contact any officer or the president and if they concur with the member for a need to have a meeting then the proper procedures to call it will take place.

Article 5 – Executive Board

Section I. The officers of this club shall be a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Equipment Manager, and the Club Advisor.

Section II. The duties of the officers shall be:
President – Oversee the entire club, schedule meetings as necessary, coordinate with Student Activities at the College of Charleston, and oversee the other officers and captains. He will also fill in any vacant Executive Board positions.
Vice President – Work with president to oversee club, request any facilities or fields that are needed, and help to organize fundraisers.
Treasurer – Maintain and regulate team funds, organize and direct fundraisers, and handle all necessary purchases, collect dues, arrange payment for referees, tournament fees, hotels, and other travel expenses. The Treasurer is in control of all money given to the club throughout the year, and is expected to account for all expenses and loans.
Secretary – Maintain records of all active players liability forms, medical conditions, contact information, send out email and team notifications, and practice conflicts as well as taking attendance at practice.
Equipment Manager - Keep a detailed record of all team equipment, distribute team equipment each year and collect equipment at the end of each season from graduating seniors and inactive members as well as ordering all new equipment for the team.
Advisor - Will oversee any administrative matters involving the team and oversee club meetings.

Section III. The Executive Committee reserves the right to create new offices and appoint officers to fill the new positions. Offices that may be beneficial are a Public Relations Chairman who publicizes lacrosse events and maintains alumni relations, a Field Manager who prepares the field for games and practices, and a Transportation Chairman who plans all road trips.

Section IV. Any offices created by a given administration will be maintained when a new Executive Committee is appointed. The new Executive Committee will have the power of eliminating these offices or appointing new officers to the given positions at the beginning of each season.

Section V. If an officer leaves office before the expiration of his term then the president will take full responsibility of that office.

Article 6 - Elections

Section I. Elections will take place immediately following the end of the spring season. The term for each position starts at the end of the spring season and runs over the summer and through the following fall and spring season for the duration of one calendar year.

Section II. Members will send their nominations to the Secretary. Members cannot nominate themselves. The nominations must be seconded. Once all nominations have been seconded, the candidates will give a speech and members will then cast their votes. The former President’s vote acts only as a tiebreaker. All votes will be sent to the acting Secretary. In order to run for president one must have held an executive council position for at least one year. Once the President has been elected, the other five positions will be voted on.

Section III. Officers may repeat for multiple terms if re-elected by the team at the conclusion of their term. Nominees must have shown commitment to the lacrosse team for one whole season through their actions prior to being nominated for the office, and they must continue that commitment while in office.

Section IV. If an officer leaves office before the completion of his term then the president will take over his respective duties.

Article 7 – Funds

Section I. The following procedures will take place for the allocation of club funds: A meeting will be held with the treasurer in attendance. At this meeting, expenses of the team will be discussed regarding the specific event. Once the necessary funds have been calculated, the treasurer will document the debit from the funds and a check will be written to the receiving party.

Section II. Allocated College Funds will be used strictly for transportation, lodging, goals, balls, and helmets.

Section III. The equipment manager will collect any uniforms or equipment provided by the club at the end of each spring season. Any player that does not turn in their jersey or equipment that was provided will be charged accordingly for the replacement of it. Each player is liable for any damage done to their equipment.


Article 8 – Committees

The club will have a fundraising committee that will come up with ideas to raise money for uniforms, equipment, and other apparel.

Article 9 – Affiliations

Article 10 – Coach or Instructor

Section I. The qualifications of a desired coach/instructor are as follows: Reasonable knowledge of lacrosse, willingness to organize practices, and the ability to attend games.

Section II. Designated members/players of the club may coach the team in an absence of a coach.


Article 11 – Advisor

The qualifications of an advisor are as follows: Approving the club’s annual budget and approving the club’s program. Serving as a liaison to the school and club. Assisting members of the club and well as serving as a liaison with outside organizations during extramural competition. Remaining current with the sport club handbook. Assisting the Stern Student Center in monitoring the club’s activity and attending club meetings throughout the year.

Article 12 – Ratification

Each member will receive a copy of the constitution and will be asked to give any feedback on the makeup of the document. If no changes need to be made, the executive board will then make the final decision to ratify the constitution.

Article 13 - Amendments

Any member of the club may propose an amendment at any time. If the majority of the Executive Board deems the amendment beneficial and it has been seconded, the proposed amendment will be voted on at the next meeting.

Article 14 – Bylaws

Amendments to this constitution require a two-thirds majority vote of members in attendance at a given organizational meeting along with a unanimous vote amongst the Executive Committee Board.
